This book mainly focuses on Pak-Iran interests in Afghanistan. An attempt is made to explore the various turns and twists in Pak-Iran relations in Afghanistan. Bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran were affected, derived and formed by their interest based policies in Afghanistan. Afghanistan, Iran, and Pakistan can be characterized as three neighbors each following their own agendas. In the quarter-century since the Islamic Republic came to power in Iran, the countries have been going through relationship phases that can be referred to at best as not so smooth - if not hostile at times. Iran shares more than 500 miles of its border with each Afghanistan and Pakistan. The populations in both Afghanistan and Pakistan are comprised of a Sunni majority and Shiite minority. As the only Shiite country in this Troubled Triangle, Iran is compelled to react to events affecting Shiites in Afghanistan and Pakistan. This work is essentially useful for scholars researchers social activists academics government functionaries and the general reader alike.
