Being a study of different festivals of the Hindus, the author does point out in the introduction, that the various festivals noticed in the book differ according to the geographical, or caste affinities. While describing the festivals, the author gives the mythological history of the festival noticed. The book starts with a list of Hindu months, and Hindu festivals, then follows the subject matter of the work. In the introduction, the author makes an impassioned plea against the caste system, and all associated evils and prejudices. 24 festivals are described : Kaliyuga, Til Sankrant, Basant Panchmi, Shivratri, Holi, Varaspratpada, Ramnaumi, Hanuman Jayanti, Akshay Tritiya, Vata Savitri, the eclipse, Vyas Puja, Ekadashi, Nag Panchami, Raksha Bandhan, Narali Purnima, Pola, Janamashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Tulsi Vivah, Dashera, Diwali, and Datta Jayanti. There is a month-wise list of festivals at the start of this book.
