Description

Experience the spectacular world of James Cameron's Avatar as never before with this all-new three-disc extended collector's edition. The journey begins with three movie versions: the original theatrical release, the special edition re-release, and the exclusive extended cut not shown in theaters. And that's just what's on the first Blu-ray disc. The set's bonus feature run more than eight hours and include over 45 minutes of deleted scenes; actor's screen tests; on-location footage; feature-length documentaries on the film's groundbreaking production; an interactive scene-deconstruction feature that lets you explore different levels of production for 17 scenes; a comprehensive guide to the world of Pandora; and more. The greatest adventure of all time just got bigger and better.

Sam Worthington plays the protagonist Jake Sully, a paraplegic Marine who is dispatched to the moon, Pandora, to help the security force gain the confidence of the native Navi tribe in order to mine the precious mineral Unobtanium. The Navi live in harmony with nature and worship the mother goddess known as Eywa. To mine this mineral, they have to destroy the fragile ecosystem of Pandora. Jake, Dr. Augustine and pilot Trudy Chacon join hands with the Navi to fight the Resources Development Administration' s security forces who is led by the brutal Colonel Miles Quaritch.

Did you Know:

  • James Cameron originally planned to have the film completed for release in 1999. At the time, the special effects he wanted increased the budget to $400 million. No studio would fund the film, and it was shelved for eight years.
  • The movie is 40% live action and 60% photo-realistic CGI. A lot of motion capture technology was used for the CGI scenes.
  • One of the most expensive movies ever made (as of December 2009), with an estimated budget of US $280,000,000.
  • First movie to ever cross the US$ 2,000,000,000 mark worldwide (and later the US$ 2.5 billion mark), making it the highest grossing film in history.
  • The first completely digitally shot movie to win the Oscar for Best Cinematography.
