Description

Bermuda grass is one of the most popular of the warm season grasses. Bermuda grass can be easily planted from grass seed, sod or grass plugs. This perennial grass grows in tropical, sub-tropical and the transition zones. Bermuda grass is a medium- to fine-textured warm season turf-grass that spreads by rhizomes and stolons. It has excellent heat, drought, and salt tolerance but does not do well in shade. Bermuda grass is the most widely used type on athletic fields and golf course fairways/tee boxes due to its high wear tolerance and rapid recovery. This grass grows well in many types of soil and is weed resistant. Care and maintenance Bermuda grass is an aggressive growing grass and can easily overrun flower beds and border if it is not kept under control. Best in tropical climates it stands up to droughth and grows best in full sun. It does have a medium need for water so weekly watering is recommended during dry months. Be careful with mowing and only start after the last hard freeze has passed and soil temperatures have reached 55 degrees. HOW TO GROW:Seedbed Preparation: Loosen soil to a depth of six inches (15 cm). Level area to proper grade with approximately .5 inches (14 mm) pulverized soil at the surface. Rake smooth prior to planting. Do NOT use any herbicides or weed & feed fertilizers during planting. You must allow a period of 10-14 weeks prior to, and 10-14 weeks after seeding date in which NO herbicides or weed & feeds can be applied. Keep area mowed frequently to control weeds.
