"Twenty-one alumni of the class of 1973/78 Faculty of Medicine, University Malaya Kuala Lumpur, authored this book, writing personal accounts of their lives. Each alumnus has written a chapter recalling key events and challenges in their lives as they journeyed through undergraduate and postgraduate training and finally as consultants in their chosen specialty of Medicine. Some became well-known medical teachers.
Written with explanations so that the non-medically trained reader would understand, this book contains a rich tapestry of hilarious encounters with patients, harrowing adventures with critically ill patients who were saved in places as far away as in the villages of Africa, as near as in the outback of our own Sarawak and as high up as in an airborne plane on a mercy flight. It also contains stories of some of the physicians themselves becoming sick and battling major illnesses and using their experience as patients to help others.
In summary, this book chronicles the journeys of a group of Malaysian doctors as they acquire the necessary skills to serve their fellow man well and their experiences in fulfilling their Hippocratic Oath.
