Sawan Presents Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi from Biographies of Great Personalities. According to legend, Ganesh Shankar was born into a Hindu Kayastha family at Hathgaon/Hathgam in Fatehpur District, which was inhabited by Saint Parashar. His father, Jai Narain, also written Jainarayan, was a teacher at an Anglo Vernacular School in Mungaoli, which is now a tehsil in Madhya Pradesh's Ashoknagar district. He was impoverished yet a devout Hindu committed to great ideals. Ganesh Shankar acquired his early education from him and passed the high school test privately in 1907, after studies at Mungaoli and Vidisha. This school maintains a record of his admittance. He was unable to continue his studies owing to poverty and worked as a clerk at a currency office and afterwards as a teacher in a Kanpur high school. He also published his first novel Hamari Atmogsargart at the age of sixteen and married Chandraprakashwati Vidyarthi on 4 June 1909
