Description

The Biography of Bankim Chandra Chatterjee is the brief life sketch of the great Indian author who gave us our national song—Vande Mataram.

Though he was a Bengali writer, poet and journalist, he loved Sanskrit a lot. He wrote his first novel in English. He is considered the first English novelist of India.

Though he served as Deputy Collector and Deputy Magistrate in the Government of British India from 1858, until his retirement in 1891, yet he is widely regarded as a key figure in literary renaissance of Bengal as well as the broader Indian sub-continent.

Some of his writings, including novels, essays and commentaries, were a breakaway from traditional verse-oriented Indian writings and provided an inspiration for authors across India.

The inside pages consist of an inspiring account of his life—how a loyal servant of British in India became an eminent author and journalist and inspired the activists during the Indian Independence Movement through his works to such an extent that his song Vande Mataram is adopted as the National Song of India.
