This book attempts to advocate for health empowerment of women through selfcare by adopting patient centered care in OPD Settings. This is sought to be promoted as a desirable strategy in 21st century hospitals. The USP of the book is that it is an entirely indigenous product, i.e., based on the research project work of the students and faculty of PGIMER, Chandigarh. The book indicates that it is feasible to impart health promotion orientation in Gynecology, Orthopedics and Surgery OPDs through counselling of women without resorting to any medication. In the era of evidence based medicine this book showcases the efficacy of a variety of interventions related to various women health issues including menstruation, polycystic ovary syndrome; infertility, minor disorders in pregnancy, congenital malformations/genetic disorders, urine leakage, pelvic organ prolapse, dysmenorrhea, menopause, low back pain, knee osteoarthritis, therapy related complications in breast or cervix cancer patients.
All the projects highlighted in the book have a definite replication value in medical/nursing colleges of India and elsewhere. The book will surely empower women to have a healthy and productive life.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Dr. Amarjeet Singh is Senior Professor, Community Medicine, PGIMER, Chandigarh, India. He has published more than 190 research articles, written more than 100 chapters in books and coauthored more than 30 books He has completed more than 60 research projects. He has published a book each on 'Demedicalizing Women's Health', 'Health Promotion', 'Care of Dependent and Elderly' and' Salutogenesis'. His work on mobile phone based health care (with Dr Surya Bali) was listed as an" Innovative approaches” in HSPROD database. He has initiated a new concept of establishing multipurpose behavior therapy (MPBT) room in OPD to enhance patients and doctor satisfaction. He has also produced 8 short films on various topics of public health along with their script writing.
Dr . Sukhpal Kaur is Lecturer in National Institute of Nursing Education, PGIMER, Chandigarh. Her research interests include-Care of Dependent and Elderly at Home, Palliative Care, Neuroscience Nursing, Oncology Nursing. She has published 15 books on these issues. Her book on Nursing Research is quite popular among nursing fraternity.
Dr. Vanita Suri is Professor & Head, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, PGIMER, Chandigarh. Her areas of interest include assisted reproductive technology, Infertility, Preventive oncology , Medical and surgical disorders of pregnancy. She has written more than 120 papers; more than 10 chapters and 3 books. She has also completed 20 projects
