The novel Kidnapped was written by Robert Louis Stevenson and published in 1886. The story was first published in serial form in a popular magazine of that time before it became the Kidnapped book. It is a coming-of-age tale of the young David Balfour, a boy from the Scottish Lowlands who leaves his home to find his way in the world. The book is set in Scotland during the Jacobite rebellion. After being kidnapped, shipwrecked, hunted as an outlaw, and sick almost to death, David finds his way home to his rightful inheritance. Stevenson published a second novel about David Balfour in 1893 entitled Catriona (the U.S. title is David Balfour).
