The sun dried ripe fruit of the vine is valued as a spice as well as an essential ingredient in ayurvedic. Speculations about the ani-cancer properties of Indian long pepper also prevails, due to the presence of a chemical Piperlongumine. Along with other herbs it is used to treat digestive disorders, respiratory disorders and liver diseases. In India, it is a traditional home remedy for cold and cough related problems.
