S. D. Burman was an acclaimed singer, and music composer, of Bengali descent. During his lifetime, he composed songs for more than 100 movies. Burman descended from a royal lineage, from both his mother and fathers side. He completed his Masters education from Calcutta University. After his formal schooling, Burman began his music tutelage under notable musicians and artists such as Bhismadev Chattopadhaya, Kahifa Badal Khan, and Ustaad Allauddin Khan. In the early 1940s, Burman made his journey to Mumbai. His first major success was in the Do Bhai (1947).

S. D. Burman possessed a smooth voice that was loved by everyone who heard him sing. His music was heard widely, and was appreciated by millions of people. Burman also had the ability to create original music from virtually anything, using a variety of instruments as well as genres. S. D. Burman developed a new musical form that was a combination of classical and folk. He is regarded as one of the greatest Indian musicians. The book talks about his childhood, to his years of struggle, and his character.

About the Author

Khagesh Dev Burman is an author and editor, who hails from the royal lineage of Tripura similar to S. D. Burman. He has authored two other books titled Musical World of S. D. Burman, and R. D. Burman: Prince Of Music. Khagesh was born in 1940 in Agartala. Throughout his childhood, Khagesh Burman was surrounded by art and literature. He edited his first collection of poetry titled Prantikthe in 1962. Burman was awarded the Sachin Samman by Tripuras government, for writing the Bengali version of S. D. Burman: The World Of His Music called Sachin Kartar Ganer Bhuban.
