Description

"Sawan Presents Bhakta Soordas from The Great Personalities Series. Sant Kavi Surdas was a 15th century blind saint, poet and musician, known for his devotional songs dedicated to Lord Krishna. Surdas was born in the year 1535 in a village named Sihi near Delhi, in a poor Brahmin’s family. Surdas was born blind and because of this he was neglected by his family. This generated a feeling of dispassion in him and so he left his home and started living under a pepal tree near a beautiful lake. At that time his age was 18 years. But due to certain obstacles in his bhajan, he had to shift from this place to another spot called Runakta. In Runakta, he received the company of saints. Surdas could not get accustomed to this place too. So he reached Gau ghat, near the Yamuna banks in Mathura. Here he wrote poems and composed music.
Sawan Presents Meerabai from The Great Personalities Series. MeeraBai was a Rajput princess who lived in the north Indian state of Rajasthan. She was a devout follower of Lord Krishna. MiraBai was one of the foremost exponents of the Prema Bhakti (Divine Love) and an inspired poetess. She sang in vraja-bhasha, sometimes mixed with rajasthani, in praise of Giridhara Gopala (Shri Krishna), her lord for whom she developed in her heart the most intense love and devotion.
