About the Author
Jacqueline Suthren Hirst's doctoral research on the teacher in Shankara's works included a short period in South India in 1982 studying colophons of manuscripts. She is trained as a secondary school teacher of Religious Education, has taught in comprehensive schools for five years, then trained teachers at Homerton College, Cambridge, where she became responsible for the secondary programme in the Religious Education. Her diverse research interests are all related to this professional as well as academic interest in teaching and representation. She is currently working with Dr Mary Searle-Chatterjee from Manchester Metropolitan University on representation on SACREs and she continues to publish material for teachers and pupils linked with on-going fieldwork amongst South Asian minorities in the UK.
