Description

The aim of this book has been to present as accurately and completely as possible what the Kol is, does and thinks. This is a study of a primitive tribe living in contact with Hindu influences. Uniformity of belief and practice is nowhere characteristic of India, nor of this tribe, but the general picture as here presented has been found remarkably consistent through the areas the author and his companions have toured. The author hopes that this book will encourage further studies in primitive groups and help to preserve the memory of these children of Sheori. The author has questioned, probed and photographed a host of Kols for this work. They are a very human folk, who have been very touched as the author attempted to understand their life and thought. The materials used in the preparation of this work were collected when the author spent fifteen years in Jabalpur, Central Provinces, where the Kol group is found.
