This book, The Road To The Bazaar, written by Ruskin Bond and published by Rupa & Co., is a collection of short stories revolving few friends and the story is set in the author's favourite town of Dehradun.
Synopsis
This story is set in Dehradun and is a collection of episodes revolving around four main characters- Ranji, Suraj, Amir and Koki and their friends who are aged between 13 years and 15 years. The premise of the story is about the exploitations of the main characters in this small north Indian town. Their exploits are brought to life by the author who is well-known for his short stories.
These stories are about the everyday incidents of the characters and Bond etches them in the perfect manner. There are 16 stories in all in The Road To The Bazaar and though all the stories are interlinked, each has an individuality and is about how unlikely friendship can happen anywhere. Wonderful relationships are made with complete strangers in this book.
About the author
Ruskin Bond is a well-known Indian author of English descent and he has written over 500 short stories and these are mostly for children. He got the Sahitya Academy Award in 1992 for Our Trees Still Grow in Dehra and his other published work in English. He was also awarded the Padma Shri in 1999 and the Padma Bhushan in 2014.
