About the Author
Ishrat Alam is Associate Professor, Department of History, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh; Member Secretary, Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi, and Member, Research Council and the Indian National Commission for History of Science, Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi. He has published numerous research papers on various aspects of medieval technology as well as on the economy of ancient and medieval times. Syed Ejaz Hussain is Associate Professor in History at Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, West Bengal. His specializations include Medieval Indian history and numismatics as well as Islamic history and philosophy. Dr Hussain's publications include The Bengal Sultanate: Politics, Economy and Coins (AD 1205-1576) (2003) and Mauj-i-Sultani (a memoir of the Mughal Prince Mirza Muhammad Zubairuddin Gorgani) (co-edited with Surendra Gopal, 2003). In 2000, Dr Hussain was awarded the Charles Wallace Trust (India) Fellowship to work on Indian sultanate coins in Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. In 2009, he became the Sectional President of the Medieval Section of the Pashchim Banga Itihas Samsad.
