Sawan Presents a All-Time Great Classic - The Princess & the Goblin. One of the most successful and beloved of Victorian fairy tales, George Macdonald's The Princess and the Goblin tells the story of young Princess Irene and her friend Curdie, who must outwit the threatening goblins who live in caves beneath her mountain home. The book is recommended for kids 6+, with an independent reading level of perhaps fourth or fifth grade. The vocabulary isn't difficult, but sentence structures are a bit more complex than today's style. There is a sequel entitled The Princess and Curdie, which I also plan to read.

Needing help on their farm, Green Gables, they apply to adopt a boy from an orphanage. By mistake, however, a red-haired, freckle-faced 11-year-old girl named Anne Shirley is sent to the siblings. And what is the main conflict of the story? Major conflict Anne struggles to reconcile her imagination and romantic notions with the rigid expectations of traditional Avonlea society.
