Presented in third-person perspective, the game lets you take control of Lara Croft, the protagonist. The primary emphasis of the gameplay is on survival; exploration is secondary. It also gives you the preference to compete on a multiplayer level. Within 48 hours of its release, Tomb Raider sold one million copies and till date it has sold more than 4 million copies worldwide. The game comes under the action-adventure genre and has been rated PEGI 18 for its violent content.

Tomb Raider Game of the Year Edition PS3 is the perfect blend of action-adventure, exploration and survival mechanics with thrilling graphics, and a swift gameplay. As the protagonist of the game, Lara Croft, you can travel between the camps and across the island by means of footpaths, zip-lines that are either pre-made or created spontaneously and mountable tracks.
Quick Time Events: You will come across the quick time events during regular intervals during the course of the game. These often come up at critical or fast-moving points in the game's plot, keeping you on your toes at all times.
The Warfare: The action and fight features of the game are inspired by the Uncharted series at various levels. From the ability to free-aim Croft's bow and guns to close-quarter combats and stealth kills, a lot of the battle elements will remind you of Uncharted.
Survival Instinct: Survival Instinct is a mode where foes, possessions and objects crucial to environmental puzzles will be highlighted for you, helping you cross the levels with ease.
RPG elements: As you progress through the game, you will earn experience points to accomplish specific actions and successfully complete certain challenges related to hunting, exploring and combat. This will in turn upgrade your skills as Croft in specific ways, such as more storage space for arrows and ammunition.
Character Progression Mechanic: With the character progression mechanic, you will get better items, weapons and equipment as you progress.
Besides the main story line, you will also get a chance to accomplish multiple side quests, such as exploring the island, revisiting locations and searching for challenge tombs. You can also upgrade and customise weapons using salvage collected across the island.
Multiplayer Gaming
One of the most interesting parts of Tomb Raider Game of the Year Edition PS3 is that it gives you an option to compete with other players on a multiplayer level. In every multiplayer match, there are two enemy teams - four survivors and four scavengers. There are three types of multiplayer games played across five different maps.
The Modes: The three modes are Team Deathmatch, Private Rescue and Cry for Help.
Team Deathmatch: The first mode, Team Deathmatch, is an easy PvP (Player versus Player) combat level, where teams are pitted against each other. The team that kills the opposing team in three separate matches comes out to be the winner.
Private Rescue: The second mode, Private Rescue, asks the survivor team to take medical supplies to a specific point on the map, while the scavenger team must reach a certain number of kills, both within a ten-minute time limit.
Cry for Help: The third mode, Cry for Help, asks the survivor team to explore the maps and retrieve batteries for defended radio beacons while being hunted by the scavenger team.
In all the three modes, weapons and destroyable environments from the single-player campaign are carried over.
