Synopsis

The novel describes the life of the protagonist, Heathcliff. The detailed description of his life, till his death in late thirties, captivates the mind of versatile readers across the globe. He is an adopted child who falls in love with the woman who is the daughter of the same man who adopted Heathcliff. He is reduced to the status of a servant and is also rejected by his love Catherine, who decides to marry another man. Years later, Heathcliff returns rich and educated, with his mind set on seeking revenge on the people who destroyed him. The book challenged the strict Victorian ideals of the time and was subject to immense controversy due to the elaborate depiction of mental and physical cruelty.

About the author

Emily Bronte is a British novelist and poet. She is best known for her only work, Wuthering Heights. She died at an early age of thirty but, gained contemporary popularity as her book is considered a classic in English literature.
