The parking sensors were previously called or named as Reverse Aid, which originated from spin-off from Sonic Pathfinder. Mauro Del Signore in 1992 re-invented and patented the parking sensors. These electromagnetic sensors are dependent on the vehicles moving slowly smoothly towards the objects to be avoided. These sensors are categorized into two types one is known as Ultrasonic System and the other ones are Electromagnetic Systems.
The major advantages of Ultrasonic System sensors are that they are quite cheap and are capable of detecting the obstacles even when the car or motor vehicle is not moving. The main demerits of this type of sensor are that the vehicle owners or drivers need to drill their bumper or stick the sensors on to the bumpers that make these bumpers quite unattractive.
However, these types of sensors are designed to detect the obstacles from the front or the back of the motor vehicle and they are unable to detect any obstacle towards the side of the concerned motor vehicle or the car.
The merits or advantages of electromagnetic parking sensors is that they can be used with tow bars and cycle racks. These sensors can be mounted neatly inside the bumper and there is no need to drill the bumper. The demerits or disadvantages of these sensors are that these sensors are quite expensive when compared with ultrasonic sensors and they cannot detect objects when the motor vehicle or car is in a stationery position. These sensors are designed only when the concerned motor vehicle is on the move.
