History
The exact year of invention of the screwdriver is not known to us, it has been estimated that it was invented in the late 15th century in Europe and was the place of origin was either Germany or France. The first screw driver was pear shaped and was made for slotted screws and was mostly used for securing armoury and firearms. The shape of the screwdriver was entirely dependent on the shape of the screw. The manufacturing of screws was extremely difficult and required a custom make which made them both expensive and hard to produce. The first industrial revolution changed this. Two brothers Job and William Wyatt produced screws using a ‘noel' and this contributed to the invention of machines that would be able to mass produce screws. With more screws being produced in the market there also had to be an equal number of screwdrivers that were being produced. This led to an increased use of screwdrivers. As in all cases there eventually were advancements in screw driver technology where electric torque screwdrivers and power screwdrivers were produced. These electric screwdrivers made work a hundred times faster.
Types of screw drivers
When we talk about screw drivers that are used today there are three main types i.e. the torque screwdriver, the powered screwdrivers and the Ratcheting screwdriver. Torque screwdrivers are available in three different variants and these are manual, electric and pneumatic. The torque screwdriver works on the principle wherein there is a pre-set torque and the clutch slips at that torque. Power screwdrivers are very similar to electric drills and they work on the same principle. They come in the form of a hand gun with detachable screw heads. Power screwdrivers also come with a kit that includes a number of screwdriver blades or heads.
Use and How
The main use of a power screwdriver is to tighten screws into a surface with minimal manual force. The best way to use any screwdriver (manual or powered) is to hold the screwdriver perpendicular to the work surface while working to avoid splinting or damage. It is also important to use the right screw blade for a specific screw, so keep that in mind while working. Get these and other power tools on Snapdeal with ease!
